From the reviews

Sifu James and his staff are excellent instructors who not only teach the students the kung fu methods but also philosophy of discipline that leads to success inside and outside of the art. Like any excellent teacher, Sifu gets to know the students and connects with them personally.

★★★★★ — Travis, Oct 2016

We are so happy with ATMAC karate! Our son has been training for a year and a half (starting at age 6) and we've seen many positive results in behavior and physical strength. He is more focused, respectful and disciplined since beginning the class. Also, it is very affordable for 2x a week classes!

★★★★★ — Sarah, Oct 2016

Sifu James Sparks is a caring and hardworking martial arts instructor who teaches his students not just Kung fu, but the very qualities he models such as caring, hard-work, discipline, dedication, and respect.

★★★★★ — Jenifer, Nov 2019

I have been training in martial arts since the age of 6. A year ago I moved to Kyle, TX. I started training at ATMAC Karate on September 7, 2021. I have learned many phenomenal self-defense and fighting techniques that complement my previous training.

Your first Krav Maga class at Austin Texas Martial Arts Centers

Nervous about walking into a Krav Maga school for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good instructors expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling a few core techniques with a partner — controlled and at your own pace, not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: comfortable athletic clothes you can move in — there's no uniform or special gear you need to buy to get started. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — most schools have everything else you'll need for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call what to bring. Pressure-testing eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid — you won't be sparring hard on day one. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet the instructor. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.

Krav Maga is a contact activity. Ease in, train at your own pace, listen to your instructors, and if you have any injuries or health concerns, mention them before class and check with a doctor if you're unsure.
