From the reviews
Sensei Derek Staubitz is a very knowledgeable instructor and teaches practical self-defense skills that anyone can use at any level. He makes students feel welcome and explains the techniques in a way that makes them easily understandable. Highly recommend for children and adults alike!
Hybrid defense is a great place for all ages. I have taken a womens self defense class as well as watched Sensi Staubitz work with over 30 children keeping them safe, disciplined and having fun. We worked on basic blocks, kicks and punches.
I cannot say enough good things about Sensei S. and Hybrid Defense! He goes above and beyond to differentiate instruction to meet everyone at their level, has amazing management and relationships with his students, and is all about respect. Our son had his birthday party there as well and I was blown away.
We love Hybrid for both their adult krava classes and kids karate classes. Both my boys have learned so much from Sensei Derek. He teaches the kids karate, as well as practical, age appropriate self defense.
Your first Krav Maga class at Hybrid Defense
Nervous about walking into a Krav Maga school for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good instructors expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling a few core techniques with a partner — controlled and at your own pace, not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: comfortable athletic clothes you can move in — there's no uniform or special gear you need to buy to get started. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — most schools have everything else you'll need for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call what to bring. Pressure-testing eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid — you won't be sparring hard on day one. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet the instructor. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
