★★★★★ — Freddy, Nov 2014

I've trained at several Krav Maga schools in the last three years, and KMI is definitely the best. The classes are fun, and the format makes it easy to learn. More time is spent on learning technique than other schools I've been to (versus focusing on fitness), so you get better, faster.

★★★★★ — Derek, May 2014

For two years, I flirted with the idea of trying Krav Maga, but admittedly, I was intimidated by the notion. I thought for sure that I would walk into a class, feel completely out of my element, and make a fool of myself.

★★★★★ — Kristin, Feb 2014

I have attended several Krav Maga classes through the Krav Maga Institute and have really enjoyed them. The classes are a fabulous workout and I am always happy about how much the classes work my body. Not to mention learning self defense moves is pretty cool!

Your first Krav Maga class at Krav Maga Institute

Nervous about walking into a Krav Maga school for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good instructors expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling a few core techniques with a partner — controlled and at your own pace, not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: comfortable athletic clothes you can move in — there's no uniform or special gear you need to buy to get started. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — most schools have everything else you'll need for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call what to bring. Pressure-testing eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid — you won't be sparring hard on day one. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet the instructor. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.

Krav Maga is a contact activity. Ease in, train at your own pace, listen to your instructors, and if you have any injuries or health concerns, mention them before class and check with a doctor if you're unsure.
